Chestnut Season in Andalusia. Visit to Igualeja
From October to December on the streets of Andalusian towns you can smell a delicious sweet aroma of roast chestnuts because it is the chestnut season!
There are several areas where chestnuts are cultivated: in the Málaga, Huelva, Sevilla and Granada provinces.
In Málaga province these villages are known for producing chestnuts: Pujerra, Cartajima and Igualeja.
Last weekend the weather was so nice, sunny and warm like in summer, and we decided to visit Igualeja. This charming Andalusian village is located just 50 minutes away from Marbella.
It is an amazing place to visit with you family and friends during October and November to have a walk around the town and see how chestnuts grow.
Igualeja is part of a place called Valley Genal. The main attraction of this town is “Nacimiento Río Genal” – the source of the river Genal. The river passes through all the village.
The best place to have lunch in Igualeja is Bar Restaurante El Nacimiento. It is located next to the source of the river Genal.
Picturesque views, calming sounds of the river and delicious traditional Spanish food. This family-owned restaurant just has no flaws. In their menu you will find a great variety of typical dishes of the area, meat dishes with chestnut sauce and the chestnut flan for dessert!
